November 2010

What a month!  Where did October go?

We went to the October show and had a great time.  Lots of you came and said hello which was great - thank you so much.  it was terrific to be able to put faces to names and to catch up with old friends.

At the moment, my volunteer work is overtaking my life, so I don't really have anything to show this month.

I have been sewing, just not finishing.   I realised at the beginning of the week that I had to have 2 quilts made by the end of the week for 2 gentleman who are leaving.  Eek!  So raced around the shop, picked two raggy kits, and started madly cutting and sewing.  One has been already been given and much admired by the recipient.  The other is half done, will be finished tonight and the recipient will get it tomorrow morning.  Thank goodness for raggy quilts - at least once I've stitched the blocks and done a bit of clipping, it is then into the washer and dryer.  About the worst bit is picking off bits of fluff (after you've given it an almighty shake!)

WHAT'S HAPPENING

Not a lot this month!  I know I shouldn't say that but my life was  so hectic last month and still is at the moment - it should slow down soon I hope!  I am starting to plan for next year - the calendar is out and marking off in each month what is happening.

Don't forget Christmas is around the corner!  Get your present list done for the family early, so you don't miss out!

We are still waiting for stock of Michelle Hill's new book and patterns.  We were originally told October, then November and now I'm hearing whispers about December!  If you would like to know when they arrive, just drop us a quick line ad we'll add you to our list of those who are waiting patiently.

CLASSES

Don't forget we have our regular classes on offer for those of you who are able to come to the shop.

Click here, to see what we are up to.

PIECES OF THE PAST WEB SAMPLER

We are down to our last 10 block kits.

Why not get different members of the family to order a block each.  Not too expensive for the family and you get all the blocks for a quilt.  Then they can buy you the finishing kit for your birthday.

To purchase our Block and Finishing Kit, click here.  Alternatively you can click on Featured Products (in the top menu), then Pieces of the Past.

If you would like to see all the blocks and the different finishing kits, then go to www.piecesofthepast.com.au.

WHAT'S NEW

As always there are lots of wonderful new goodies!

Michelle Hill's fabric line is in store - The Adelaide Collection.  We also stock the Lakehouse fabrics she is using for background in her quilts.  She has certainly captured the essence and spirit of William Morris in her fabrics.

We have received the new Cosmo Seasons Variegated Stranded Cottons.  There are 80 colours in the range in 8m skeins.  The Marbles variegated have been discontinued, so if you have a favourite colour stock up before they all go.

There are free patterns on the Lecien website and Lynette has stitched one of them.  To access the free pattern, go to our website, click on Freebies, Free Patterns Fabric Manufacturers, then Lecien.  There are two free patterns to be stitched - one from Meg Hawkey of Crab Apple Hill and one from Natalie Lymer of Cinderberry Stitches.

We are now stocking zips - just one size but in a wide range of colours.  They are 35cm/14" polyester zips.  These would suit bags, clothing, cushions, all sorts of projects.  The great thing about the polyester zips is if they are too long, you simply cut them off and stitch across the end.  We are stocking zips to complement a number of our patterns, but in particular, Pockets to Go from Atkinson Designs.

Jan Mullen has finally released a new range - we have been waiting a couple of years for this one.  It is in Jan's signature style with lots of vibrant colour.

And last but not least, Leanne Beasley of Leanne's House has launched her own magazine - Vignette.

It is filled with projects, recipes, travel, home, garden and not one advertisement in sight!

We have stock at the moment, but don't know for how long.

I'm busting to make the chicken sandwiches - they look and sound yummy!

There is so much more in New New New - stop by and have a look!

SNEAK PEAK

I know I said I don't normally do this but I just have to!

Last month you met Ooshka Baboushka.  She just flew out of the shop and the show (she did enjoy her days out).

Of course we have more now.  Last month Susan C wrote to me and thought that Ooshka would be the perfect sewing project for her daughter.  What a fabulous idea!  This would be the perfect project to teach youngsters to do some hand sewing and machine sewing.  Simple shapes, not too many seams.  It is something that they can keep for themselves - I can see Ooshka being best friends with quite a few little girls!

Well we have now ordered but are still waiting for ....

Ooshka Boy!  He is so cute.

He has a mask and a cape

I'm sure he is destined to be best friends with your favourite little man.

He comes as a pattern with one face.  As with Ooshka Babushka, separate faces available for purchase singly.

Isn't he just darling!

if you want to know when this cute little super hero arrives in store, just drop us a line.

GOOD BUYS

Don't forget there are hundreds of fabrics and other goodies always on sale - reduced by 25% or 40%.  All good fabric - top quality - I just have too much, so out it has to go.  My loss is your gain!

MY GIFT TO YOU

To say thank you to all our loyal customers, there is a draw at the end of each calendar month.  Two names - one from in-store shoppers and one from mail/phone/internet shoppers are randomly drawn from the sales for the month.  These two lucky people will each receive a Gift Voucher equal to the amount of their sale.

If I haven't heard from this month's lucky winners by the 21st of the month, I will re-draw the prize and announce a new lucky winner.

The draw for October has been done.  Drum roll please .....

Our two lucky winners for October are
Helen D from Burpenagry ($34.70), and
Shirley H from Corinda ($6.00).

Congratulations to these two ladies.  Please contact the shop as soon as possible to verify your delivery details so that we can get your gift certificates off to you.

And finally, in the words of Alfred North Whitehead,

If a dog jumps in your lap, it is because he is fond of you, but if a cat does the same thing, it is because your lap is warmer.

Enjoy!
