October 2010Well I'm back from holidays but haven't got much done lately. I woke up on the last day of my holiday and thought I was dying! Managed to packup and drive home and then spent the best part of a week in bed with some horrible cold/flu thing. Even when I came back to work, for the first few days I was going home early or not achieving much in the afternoon. But I appear to be all better now and need to get back into the sewing. So no piccies this month of what I've been up to ('cause I haven't done anything worthy!) While I was away I spent some time with our website developers. They have some new ideas for the site - some are in the background which will make it easier to maintain and others you will see happening as the weeks roll by. Hopefully you will like what we are doing. WHAT'S HAPPENING This month in Brisbane is the annual Craft and Quilt Fair at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre at Southbank. It starts on Wednesday Oct 20 and finishes Sunday Oct 24. It is open daily from 9am to 5pm. The Fair incorporates the annual Queensland Quilters Quilt Show. I hope lots of you have your entries in. We sponsor a major prize each year - usually in one of the traditional quilt categories. We will be at the show this year in our usual spot - stand J12 - right at the entry to the Quilt Show. Stop by and say hello if you are there - it's always so nice to see a friendly face! CLASSES Don't forget we have our regular classes on offer for those of you who are able to come to the shop.
Click here, to see what we are up to. PIECES OF THE PAST WEB SAMPLER For those of you who have been thinking about doing this quilt, I have just ordered our last lot of patterns for our Block. So if you want one, you had best order quickly so you don't miss out. If you are unfamiliar with this, a Web Sampler is like a Block of the Month. However you don't buy your blocks from one shop - there are 9 shops involved. So you buy 1 block from each shop. As there are 9 shops involved, there are 9 different ways that you can put your blocks together - each shop has done their own quilt using the same nine blocks.
If you would like to see all the blocks and the different finishing kits, then go to www.piecesofthepast.com.au.
WHAT'S NEW
We now also stock preprinted Sashiko fabric by the metre - 3 different patterns in Navy and Off-White. If you would prefer to do your own design, we also stock the plain sashiko fabric in Navy and Off-White. There is also a Sashiko kit (pictured) which includes pre-printed fabric (again 3 different designs available) and thread. The kit can be made into either a Tote Bag or an Apron.
Ott-Lite have added two new decorative lamps to their range. These are the Marietta Lamps and they are available in table or floor. Our prices are very competitive. As a preferred Ott-Lite dealer, we are able to reduce our prices below recommended retail. We have a new range of William Morris fabrics. These are produced by Fabric Freedom, an English company (the home of William Morris).
We can take standing orders for any of the magazines that we stock. Don't forget we also stock, Quilting Arts magazine.
Happy (Me & My Sister) & Puctuation (American Jane).
I'm also pleased to announce we have received our shipment of Under the Australian Sun by Leesa Chandler, an Australian Designer.
There are lots more new and exciting goodies to be found in our Just In - New New New Department.
SNEAK PEAK
Ooshka is 16" (40cm) tall and 10" (25cm) across at her widest part. She comes as a pattern with a pre-printed face included. You are then able to buy more faces separately. She can be either blonde or brunette. I think her face is just beautiful. As a rough estimate, I think the patterns (including 1 face) will be around $20 and extra faces around $10. If you are interested and would like to know when she arrives, then e-mail or call to register your interest and we'll let you know as soon as she arrives. For those of you coming to the Craft & Quilt Fair, Ooshka will be there with us for the 5 days. GOOD BUYS Don't forget there are hundreds of fabrics and other goodies always on sale - reduced by 25% or 40%. All good fabric - top quality - I just have too much, so out it has to go. My loss is your gain! MY GIFT TO YOU To say thank you to all our loyal customers, there is a draw at the end of each calendar month. Two names - one from in-store shoppers and one from mail/phone/internet shoppers are randomly drawn from the sales for the month. These two lucky people will each receive a Gift Voucher equal to the amount of their sale. Unfortunately I still haven't heard from one of last month's winners - Beverley L (c/- Robyn L) if you're out there, call us! It's a bit disappointing to not be able to give away our Gift Vouchers each month, so I have decided that from this month onwards, if I haven't heard from the lucky winner by the 15th of the month, I will re-draw the prize and announce a new lucky winner. The draw for September has been done. Drum roll please ..... Our two lucky winners for September are
Janet C from Shailer Park ($109.65), and
Amanda C from Hughes ACT ($65.40).
Congratulations to these two ladies. Please contact the shop as soon as possible to verify your delivery details so that we can get your gift certificates off to you.
And last but not least, rumour has it that there will be a Flannel sale at the end of the week. Keep an eye out for the e-mail that will contain all the details.
And finally, in the words of Sam Ewing, Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all.
Enjoy!
